Meet Bob in the video below. He recently purchased a beautiful 1959 Bugeye we had called “Pedro” and we loaded the car into an enclosed trailer and shipped it to him in Florida. Before we did that, we designed a build sheet together that included the modifications Bob wanted to make this car his own, and to optimize it for his location and type of usage.

50 pictures of beautiful Bugeye moments
We just sold our 165th Bugeye Sprite.
I am personally in awe of this accomplishment. I never would have guessed when I purchased “Gumby” in 1979 (pictured below) that we would one day end up with a business born out of a passion for a simple little car with a lot of personality.
How can we objectively measure the quantity of Bugeyes we have sent to new homes?
It’s a column of Bugeyes 1856 feet long, bumper to bumper, a procession long enough to reach, well, a bit more than a quarter mile! (ok, they’re small cars)
It’s 109 tons of Bugeyes.
It’s 330 tuned and synchronized SU carbuettors. (thank you Russ)
It’s 660 torn radius arm bushings we’ve replaced.
And probably 165,000 truck miles for all the cars we have transported around America and beyond.
But none of this data tells the real story.
Yesterday, while preparing the 165th Bugeye “Bliss” for the new owners who are 2000 miles away, lunch arrived for our crew. Sandwiches, Sprite and cookies were sent by that new owner, who took the time to find a local Connecticut deli via YELP on her smartphone and have them deliver lunch for the people building her new car. For me, this tells the story, of the 165 wonderful new Frogeye owners who have come together to celebrate this amazing little car, built in a time that now seems so far away, when people drove cars that meant something more than just a means to get from A to B.

Our second Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car cover!
I was ecstatic to open my mailbox recently and find myself driving a Sprite on the cover of my favorite car magazine. Hemmings Sports and Exotic car #123 (November 2015) includes a great feature about our 1965 Sprite club racer. I knew Hemmings would eventually run a story about the car, but to see it on the cover, (with me driving!), was quite a wonderful surprise!
This is the second cover to feature our cars and quite an honor for me, since I routinely read every issue from cover to cover (Click here to read our first Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car Cover story from Sept 2013.) This new piece is our third feature by the way, with a story in July of 2014 about our Supercharged Bugeye which you can read by clicking here.
Our whole staff is nuts for this magazine… Bob our welder reads these mags carefully one page at a time, in sequence!!! I asked him if he saw our Sprite cover, and he said he hasn’t looked at the current issues yet, as he is still reading the May 2015 issue and hasn’t yet caught up.
I purchased this car from the builder roughly a year ago. We sorted a number of issues, improved a number of systems, and then sold it to Ron from Tennessee who you see featured in the story. Dave LaChance from Hemmings had visited to drive the car when we had it, and it took about 18 months for an opening for this story to run.
Click here to read this new cover story “Sprite Done Right.” If you haven’t already subscribed to this publication, I hope you will do so, as the magazine would certainly appeal to anyone who enjoys our site, and you’re invited to support what I think is the best car publication for vintage sports car enthusiasts!
Restored Bugeye Sprite heads to Canada
This fantastic Bugeye has moved to Canada, and here’s the new owner in the video below, ready for his trip home. This car had an amazing ground up restoration, yet the new owner still used our resources to build a list of accessories into the car, and make it even better before departure! Each of our Bugeyes is unique, and customized to meet the needs of the new owner.
664 miles in his new AH Bugeye Sprite on the first day
Steve bought “Coleman” from us a week or so ago, and had his wife drop him off at our shop on her way to Vermont. He then drove 664 miles home, non-stop! He left Bugeyeguy at 2pm and arrived at his driveway in West Virginia at about 2AM the next day.
We’ve had several new owners make long maiden voyages in Bugeyes they purchase from us. I’ll admit I am usually a bit anxious because I’m on call in the event of a problem, but as with others before him, Stephen drove pretty much 12 straight hours without issue. He even detoured north to take the Newburgh Bridge across the Hudson, adding more miles to an already long journey.
Cars we’ve prepared have logged thousands of miles with very few issues. Each pilot like Steve helps us to gain valuable information about any vulnerabilities, and each long trip helps us to be our best. To Steve and all the other inspiring long haul Bugeye drivers, we salute you!
Supercharged Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite departs for a new home
Today it was time for “Roz” to depart for Rhode Island, and Ron chose to have the car delivered to his house by flatbed truck. The final product is stunning, with multiple performance and cosmetic upgrades. We had built the car with radial white walls and a white tonneau, and Ron, the new owner, chose to have us add custom white seats with matching green piping, white door pockets and a new custom white top. We upgraded the performance with a modern supercharger, custom exhaust and alternator kit.
Everything you see on this car is of course available if you hire us to build a Bugeye just for you. Each of the now 148 Bugeyes we have sold has been completely unique. In the video below, the new owner talks about the choices he made on his spectacular Bugeye build.
