Restoration guide–How to properly trim a Bugeye Sprite Door

In the short video below, you can see the proper way to fit the door gasket or “windlace” on a Bugeye. This door weatherstrip is often missing on Bugeyes, and here’s how to do it right.

You’ll also see the proper door pocket panel, which we will soon offer for sale in the “buy accessories” section of the Bugeyeguy website (along the top of each page). We see routinely see these panels in different shapes and sizes- and we will offer a correct reproduction of the original panel that easily slides into place on any Bugeye door.

You’ll notice that the inside of the door is lined with black carpet. This surface would normally be covered with ribbed rubber matting, not the carpet you see in the video. However, carpet is used widely in this application, and offers an attractive alternative to the hard to find rubber lining.

The Bugeye featured in this video is “Zoya,” and proper trim was part of our build sheet for her new owner, who wanted the car done right prior to shipment to a new home in Maryland.
